Man in carjacking spree to get 20 years in plea deal

A man who police said carjacked or stole five vehicles, including an incident that ended with his partner being killed in a shootout with officers in Aina Haina, pleaded guilty in state court this morning to robbery and other charges.

Michael Edward Manning Jr. pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery, being an accomplice to first-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree robbery and being a felon in possession of ammunition.

In a plea deal with prosecutors, Manning, 36, agreed to accept a 20-year-prison term when he is sentenced in January.

Mark Ahnee, 28, died in a shootout with police in Aina Haina April 14 after police said he and Manning crashed a stolen car near Ainakoa Avenue. Police were pursuing the Ahnee and Manning after a series of reported car thefts that day starting in Downtown Honolulu.
