Woman who stabbed mother as part of suicide pact to stay in prison

A Kalihi woman who told police she stabbed her 79-year-old mother last year as part of a suicide pact will remain in custody for an additional five months.

A state judge sentenced Janet Wakimura to five years of probation Monday for first-degree assault. However, as a condition of the probation, state Circuit Judge Randal Lee ordered Wakimura to go to jail for 18 months.

Wakimura, 49, has already been in custody since her arrest Oct. 6, 2010, for attempted murder, following her release from a Queen’s Medical Center psychiatric unit.
