Hiker who died on Kauai identified as Lawai man

A 59-year-old man who died from an apparent heart attack or stroke while hiking in Kauai has been identified as William Rollin Curry of Lawai.

Kauai police said Curry was hiking on the Nounou Mountain trail, also known as the Sleeping Giant, about 2 p.m. Saturday when he apparently suffered a massive heart attack or stroke.

Fire rescue personnel flew to the summit aboard the Air 1 helicopter. Rescue personnel performed CPR on Curry and transported him to Wailua Houselots park.

Medics took him to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  Preliminary autopsy results indicate Curry suffered from a possible heart attack, a county spokeswoman said.
