Kauai man pulled unconscious from surf is in guarded condition

A surfer who was pulled out of the water Wednesday afternoon at Horner’s surf spot in Wailua remained in guarded condition today at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, the Kauai Fire Department said.

The 44-year-old Lihue man was surfing at the popular surfing spot about 4:35 p.m. when he apparently hit a rock and was knocked unconscious. Bodyboarders in the area pulled him out of the water and called 911.

Fire rescue personnel from Engine 2 and Truck 2, police and medics responded to the call.

The man was taken to Wilcox in an ambulance.
