Authorities are continuing their search for a former Honolulu police officer who failed to show up to his sentencing for sexually assaulting a Waikiki prostitute.

The city prosecutor’s office on Thursday said Michael Tarmoun’s information has been entered into a database for national and international extradition.

KITV reports U.S. Marshals and the Hawaii Fugitive Task Force have joined an international search.

Attorney William Harrison says he doesn’t know what happened to his client. They spoke about three weeks ago and Tarmoun gave no indication he would skip the sentencing.

Harrison says Tarmoun is a naturalized U.S. citizen who is originally from Morocco. Aside from an ex-wife, he has no family in Hawaii.

A state judge issued a $75,000 bench warrant for Tarmoun after he didn’t appear in court last week.
