A district court judge today released the remaining 19 protesters of the 22 who were arrested after refusing to leave the ‘Iolani Palace grounds Monday night.

Deputy sheriffs unshackled the 19 who are members of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government this afternoon at  Kaneohe District Court.

Three other members of the group were earlier released about 2 a.m. today for medical reasons.

A state deputy attorney general objected to the judge’s ruling to release the defendants without imposing a geographic restriction, saying he was concerned for the safety of the people and property within the palace grounds and believed the group would return. The defendants did not say if they plan to do so.

All were arraigned today for a charge of second-degree criminal trespass, a petty misdemeanor. Trial for the group of three people released first is set for Dec. 5 at Honolulu District Court, while trial for the 19 defendants is  Jan. 12.
