Clinton to give speech on Asia-Pacific issues while in Honolulu

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will speak Thursday morning at the East-West Center ahead of several Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference talks on Friday.

East-West Center officials said Clinton will address what is expected to be one of the most important tasks of American statecraft over the coming decade — an increased emphasis on diplomatic, economic, and strategic relations in the Asia-Pacific region. She will speak to local political, business, and military leaders, as well as some heads of Pacific island nations in Hawaii for a separate conference, officials said.

The East-West Center said Clinton’s appearance is not open to the public due to limited seating, but is expected to be streamed live on the center’s website at www.eastwestcenter.org.

On Friday, Clinton will hold an APEC ministerial meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk. She also is scheduled to participate in a “women in the economy” summit.
