Death toll from Vietnam floods climbs to 100

HANOI, Vietnam >> Vietnamese officials say flooding has killed 100 people and left two others missing — mostly in southern Vietnam, which is suffering its worst floods in a decade.

A disaster official in central Quang Nam province said Wednesday that recent floods there have killed 17 people, left one missing and forced 25,000 people from their homes. Nguyen Minh Tuan says many villages in the province were isolated by floods and landslides.

The government says five other people drowned in central Vietnam and one more is missing.

Meanwhile, the death toll from seasonal floods in the southern Mekong Delta has hit 78. That area has been hit by floods since late August, but the waters have started to recede in central Vietnam.
