Big Island police warn public of thefts in Honolii Beach Park area

Hawaii County police are warning the public about recent car break-ins and thefts that have been concentrated in the area of Honolii Beach Park just north of Hilo. In October, police investigated twelve vehicle break-ins at Honolii, and another three in the surrounding area.

The incidents are occurring throughout the day, with a higher concentration during the early morning and evening hours, police said. In most cases, the thieves get in by breaking a window or through an unlocked door.

Police ask that the public to report leads or suspicious activity to the police non-emergency line at 935-3311. People who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
