Two people were arrested on separate check forgery counts at a Waipahu financial institution Monday.

Police said a Waipahu man, 46, was arrested after Hawaiian Tel Federal Credit Union employees became suspicious and contacted the check owner, who told them the check was stolen.

Officers were called and the man was arrested at the credit union on Waipahu Depot Road. 

While they were there, tellers noticed a woman, 27, whom they suspected of cashing another stolen check on Nov. 18. The woman, who lives at a domestic violence shelter, was also arrested without incident.

Police said the man and woman are in a relationship, and that the woman is believed to have been the ex-girlfriend of the owner of the forged checks, a 30-year-old man.
