Kakaako and downtown lanes to be closed for rail study
The Honolulu’s rail agency says some lanes in Kalihi, downtown Honolulu, and Kakaako will be closed next week so archaeological surveys may be completed.
The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation says some lanes will be closed on parts of Dillingham, Halekauwila, and Punchbowl streets. The streets will be closed during the day, after morning rush hour.
Along Punchbowl, the lanes will be closed at night.
The agency said Wednesday the survey is being done to identify potential archaeological, historical and cultural resources. It says the work will help project staff in their design of the commuter rail line that will run from Kapolei to Ala Moana.
Contractors Cultural Surveys Hawaii Inc. and Royal Contracting Co. are doing the fieldwork.
