2011 December 11 SPT - PHOTO COURTESY OF THE HONOLULU MARATHON ASSOCIATION. #F4 Woynishet Girma battled #F10 Valentina Galimova to win the womens title of this years marathon.

Nicholas Chelimo of Kenya successfully defended his Honolulu Marathon title this morning, outsprinting two-time champion Patrick Ivuti at the end.

Chelimo finished in a non-record 2 hours, 14 minutes and 55 seconds on a wet course and muggy conditions.

Ivuti, also of Kenya, who won in 2008 and 2009, was right behind him in 2:14:58.

Josphat Boit of Fayetteville, Ark., was third in 2:15:40.

Woynishet Girma of Ethiopia won the women’s race in 2:31:41, also not a record.

Misiker Mekonnindemissie of Albuqurque, NM, was second in 2:31:53 and Valentina Galimova of Russia third in 2:31:55.

A total of 22,615 people registered for the marathon, 194 less than last year.
