United plane with engine out lands safely in Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.>> The Federal Aviation Administration says a United Airlines 757 with one of its two engines shut down has made an emergency landing at Grand Junction Regional Airport in Colorado.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the plane was flying Sunday from Denver to Los Angeles when the right engine shut down. The aircraft was diverted to Grand Junction and landed safely at about 11:44 a.m.

United spokesman Charlie Hobart says the plane was carrying 125 passengers and crew. Another plane has left Denver to carry the passengers on to Los Angeles

Hobart didn’t know the cause of the engine problem.

Passenger Jim Schreckengast tells The Associated Press the pilot announced over the public address speakers that the engine had lost oil volume.

Schreckengast says passengers were calm and applauded after landing.
