3 UH Wahine volleyball players named to All-America teams

Hawaii's Kanani Danielson watched her hit go past the block attempt of USC's Alex Jupiter.

University of Hawaii outside hitter Kanani Danielson was named to the 2011 AVCA All-America First Team with middle hitter Emily Hartong garnering second team honors.

Middle blocker Brittany Hewitt earned an honorable mention.The announcement was made today by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in conjunction with the final four in San Antonio. 

Danielson was named a first team All-American for the third time in her illustrious career. She was also recently selected to the AVCA All-Region First Team, and was a  three-time Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Against Southern California in the Honolulu Regional semifinal, she posted her 21st double-double of the season which included a career-high 23 digs. Danielson was also named the 2011 WAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Hartong, the  2010 WAC Freshman of the Year, played every front row position this season and was named first team All-WAC and first team All-Region. She ranks in the Top 25 nationally in hitting percentage (.369).

Hewitt finished the season with 152 total blocks, and ranks 18th nationally in blocks per set (1.36). She was also an AVCA first team All-Region selection and last season was named to the AVCA All-America second team.
