UH’s Johnson honored by WAC

Hawaii's Zane Johnson passed off to teammate Joston Thomas for the game-winning shot in overtime.

University of Hawaii guard Zane Johnson was named the Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball player of the week today, the conference office announced.

Johnson averaged 19.7 points  and hit 43.2 percent of his shots overall and 38.7 percent of three-point attempts in helping the Rainbow Warriors to a 2-1 record in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.

Johnson, a senior from Phoenix, Ariz.,  scored 18 points in a loss to Auburn and 14 and 27 respectively in victories over Xavier and Clemson.

The 7-5 Warriors play South Carolina State Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
