A 70-year-old woman who died after she was pulled from the waters of Richardson Ocean Park in Hilo Monday was identified as Valeria Mee-Lee, of Honolulu.

An autopsy on Tuesday determined that Mee-Lee died of natural causes from a medical condition.

Police said Mee-Lee had been in knee-high water about 20 to 30 yards offshore when she signaled to her son for help at about 3 p.m. on Monday. Her son brought her to shore on a surfboard and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Fire Department personnel took Mee-Lee to the Hilo Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 7 p.m.
