Group to issue report on whether geothermal can handle power demand

The Geothermal Working Group sponsored by Hawaii County will present its final report at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the mayor’s lanai at the County Building, 25 Aupuni St., Hilo.

The group’s interim report said geothermal power has the potential to provide the minimum electricity demand on Hawaii island.

According to a county news release, the report includes an analysis of technical data and expert testimony providing convincing rationale to develop local renewable energy plants and transition away from the county’s dependence on petroleum-fueled generators for baseload electricity.

Geothermal Working Group Co-Chairman Wally Ishibashi will present the report, Mayor Billy Kenoi will provide supportive comments, according to the news release.
