The University of Hawaii is resigned to playing a 12-game football season in 2012 after negotiations to add a 13th game ended.

"There was one school that we thought might come here. We gave them a deadline and that deadline has passed, so we’re looking to play 12 games," UH athletic director Jim Donovan said today.

He identified the final candidate as Florida Atlantic.

Mountain West Conference members were due to submit their schedules this past Sunday. UH joins the MWC July 1, 2012.

UH said it was left in a lurch when Texas State pulled out of an apparent agreement in July and despite contacting several schools has been unable to find a fit for a maximum 13th game.

UH will play six road and six home games. As a result, it will need six victories to become bowl-eligible.

With the recent head coaching change, Donovan said he decided not to pursue what would be a school-record seventh road game and limited negotiations to home games.
