Wastewater spillls reported in Ahuimanu and Kalihi

Warning signs are being posted in Ahumimanu and Kalihi after two wastewater spills overnight.

About 5,000 gallons of wastewater spilled into the ground along Kahekili Highway from a broken valve along the Ahuimanu force main at 5:55 a.m., a spokesman for the city’s Department of Environmental Services said.

Crews cleaned, disinfected and deodorized the area and notified the state Department of Health.

Another spill near Kalihi Market on North School Tuesday night resulted in more than 75 gallons of wastewater being dumped into Kalihi Stream.

The street manhole at 2152 N School Street overflowed because of a grease blockage with 110 gallons entering into a storm drain, the state Health Department reported. More than 75 gallons entered Kalihi Stream.

The public is advised to stay out of Kalihi Stream from the North School Street bridge to the North King Street bridge.
