Man arrested after alleged baton attack in Waikiki
Police arrested a 19-year-old man after he allegedly tried to rob two men with a baton in Waikiki early this morning.
Police said the victims, 18 and 21, were walking in Waikiki about 3:20 a.m. when the assailant approached and asked for a cigarette.
When the younger man said no, the assailant accused him of calling him a name and assaulted him, and the older victim intervened, police said.
As the two men were walking away, the attacker allegedly wielded a baton and demanded money from the older man.
A witness flagged down an officer and the man, of no local address. Officers arrested him at the corner of Giuliani Avenue and Prince Edward Street for investigation of robbery, assault, and possession of a deadly weapon.
