Expect at least one more night of cool temperatures and high surf, National Weather Service forecasters predict.

A high surf warning remains in effect until Thursday at 6 p.m. for north and west shores of Oahu, Kauai, Niihau and Molokai and the north shore of Maui.

The surf is expected to peak sometime this afternoon with wave faces of 25 to 35 feet and slowly diminish through Thursday. West shore should see surf of 18 to 22 feet.

However, cool gusty north winds are creating choppy and rough surf conditions.

Civil Defense officials were concerned about the combination of high surf and a high tide early this morning. However, the surf did not rise enough to warrant the opening of shelters and did not come over Kamehameha or Farrington highways. Hawaiian Electric Co. reported no major power outages overnight.

The winds are also enhancing the cool temperatures over the islands.Lows in the high 50s and low 60s will continue for at least one more night.Tradewinds will return Thursday and the weather should slowly get warmer through the weekend.

Overnight lows in Manoa dropped to 58 degrees. Waimanalo recorded 61 degrees. Temperatures dropped to 65 degrees at the Honolulu Airport, while Lihue Airport saw a 59 degree low.

In Volcano on Hawaii Island, temperatures dropped to 45 degrees.

The north winds follow a cold front that moved over most of the state Wednesday. The low was near Hawaii island this morning.

A high wind warning is in effect for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa through this evening. West winds of 40 to 60 mph with gust up to 75 mph are predicted.
