Fire broke out overnight at Kiyo's Transmission Service on Queen Street.

A Queen Street transmission repair shop suffered $350,000 worth of damage following an early-morning fire in Kakaako today.

Firefighters responded to a fire at Kiyo’s Transmission Service at 878 Queen St. just before midnight, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig. Firefighters extinguished the blaze at 1:22 a.m.

The fire appears to have started in the office of the auto repair shop. Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause. However, initial indications do not point to anything suspicious, Seelig said.

Damage is estimated at $150,000 to the structure and $200,000 to its contents covering the shop’s inventory and tools.

Ten cars were in the shop for repairs and suffered varying degrees of damage.

This is the second fire the business has experienced in three months.

But Seelig said there is no connection between the November incident and the latest fire.

In November, an electrical component in a car parked outside of the building caught fire, but did not damage the structure.
