Police investigate death of Waianae man who died in custody
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the Waianae man who died in police custody Monday morning as Aaron Torres, 37.
Officials were trying to determine the cause of death.
Police responded to a call from a Waianae home 4:30 a.m. Monday. Police said officers found Torres to be mentally unstable and that he also may have been under the influence of drugs.
Police said Torres lost consciousness as officers tried to restrain him to prevent him from harming himself or others.
Emergency Medical Services took Torres to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:31 a.m., police said.
