Electricity was restored to Mid-Pacific Institute and other customers about 11 a.m. today after a traffic accident cut power to about 250 customers in Manoa.
University Avenue was closed between Kaala Street and Maile Way while crews replaced the utility pole and reattached lines. Hawaiian Electric Co. crews replaced the pole and restored power about 11 a.m., a spokesman said. However, work my be continuing for phone and cable lines.
Maile Way is open to drivers entering UH Manoa.
Classes at Mid-Pacific Institute and St. Francis School were canceled for today. Manoa Valley Church preschool and University Avenue Baptist preschool also closed today.
The accident affected a crucial intersection at the entrance to Manoa Valley and knocked out the traffic signal at East Manoa Road.
When police arrived at the accident scene at about 11 p.m. Monday, the utility pole was leaning on the car.
Police said two people were in the car and that paramedics took a woman in serious condition to Queen’s Medical Center.
The accident initially knocked out power to 1,000 customers, but Hawaiian Electric Co. crews were able to restore power to 750 customers shortly after the crash, a spokeswoman said.
