Suspect arrested in Chinatown hit-and-run accident

Honolulu police block off part of Nimitz Highway early this morning while they investigate a hit-and-run accident near Chinatown.

Honolulu police arrested a 20-year-old Papakolea man Wednesday in connection with a hit-and-run pedestrian accident in Chinatown earlier in the morning.

Police said said a 52-year-old Honolulu man was crossing mauka on Nimitz Highway east of Maunakea Street when he was struck by a vehicle at about 1:50 a.m. The vehicle fled the scene.

Police arrested the suspect at 7:05 a.m. for investigation of failure to render aid and later released pending further investigation.

The victim was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition, police said.
