Near drowning leaves man in extremely critical condition
Paramedics took a man in his 50s in extremely critical condition to an area hospital after the man nearly drowned in the Ala Wai Canal.
Paramedics were called at 3:18 p.m. Sunday.
Bystanders told Honolulu firefighters that they weren’t sure whether the man jumped or fell into the canal near Namahana Street, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Gary Lum.
Bystanders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man until firefighters took over, Lum said.
