The Maui Police Commission gave Police Chief Gary Yabuta high marks in all areas, the commission announced Tuesday.

The commission completed its annual evaluation of Yabuta on Feb. 21, for the 12-month period ending in November.

Yabuta performed well in areas such as department accreditation, community relations through the department’s Town Hall Outreach Program, recruiting and training of officers, and development of a new Kihei police substation.

Yabuta joined the Maui County Police Department in 1983 and was named chief in June 2009.
