Maui firefighters extinguish house fires in Wailuku, Lahaina

Maui firefighters were called to house fires in Wailuku and Lahaina Thursday morning that caused damage, but no injuries.

The first alarm sounded at 12:52 a.m. at 447 Palani St. in Wailuku Heights. The one-story structure was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Three people lived in the home. The fire was brought under control by 2:14 a.m. Officials estimated the loss at $300,000 for the structure and $150,000 for the residents’ belongings.

The second alarm was at 8:25 a.m. at 58 Aholo Road in Lahaina. Firefighters found a mattress on fire in a bedroom. The fire was contained to a second-floor bedroom. It was extinguished at 9:30 a.m.
