Hawaii island woman critically injured jumping from moving truck

Hawaii County police are seeking witnesses to an incident early Saturday morning in South Kohala that critically injured a Waimea woman. 

Police said today that a 26-year-old woman was being treated at North Hawaii Community Hospital after reportedly jumping from a moving pickup truck that was traveling about 55 mph. 

The vehicle was described as a dark blue four-door Dodge Ram pickup truck, reportedly traveling on Akoni Pule Highway between midnight and 1:30 a.m. Saturday and heading in the Kona direction between Kohala and Kawaihae. 

The woman was later transferred to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu in critical condition. 

This case has been classified as a negligent injury. 

Police ask that anyone who observed the truck or has any information about the incident call the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters may call CrimeStoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
