Hawaii TV stations win reporting awards

Erika Engle

Three Honolulu television newsrooms have won Edward R. Murrow awards for reporting or aspects of reporting from the Radio Television Digital News Association.

Hawaii News Now’s KHNL and KGMB won for Video Reporting: Hard News for its "Hawaii Tsunami Damage Update;" a Video Newscast award for a 5 p.m. show, and KGMB was cited for "Royal Wedding, Royal Ties" in the Video News Series category.

KITV’s "Kokoro: Hearts Across the Pacific" won the Video News Documentary award, and KHON-TV won an award in the Use of Video category for "Marines Homecoming."

Murrow awards are presented by region and according to market size. The Hawaii stations are in Region 2 and are considered small market compared to large-market cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco, which also are in Region 2.
