Firefighters rescue hiker who sprains ankle in Waianae
Firefighters rescued a teenage girl after she sprained her ankle while hiking in Waianae.
Fire Capt. Carlton Yamada said the girl was hiking with two others on a trail past the end of Waianae Valley Road when they got lost about 2:45 p.m. Thursday. While trying to find their way out, the girl hurt her ankle and the group called for help.
Firefighters found the girl using her cell phone signal and used a helicopter to pick her up. She was taken her to a nearby park where paramedics evaluated her.
Yamada said the other hikers, two males, hiked out on their own.
