Hawaii County Police: Man threatens guests at baby party with gun
A Hawaii island man was scheduled to appear in court today to face a dozen charges after he allegedly pulled out a stolen handgun during a baby’s birthday party and threatened three people before other party guests took away the weapon.
Chad L. Denis, of Holualoa, was being held on $500,000 bail after he was charged Tuesday with first-degree theft, first-degree criminal property damage, six counts of terroristic threatening, two counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon and two counts of failure to maintain bail or bond.
Police said Denis was at a family party at the Imin Center in Holualoa Saturday night when he pulled out the gun and threatened a 48-year-old acquaintance from Kailua-Kona. Other guests took the weapon away from him and he fled the scene. Police said they recovered the handgun and discovered it was stolen.
Police said Denis also threatened a 27-year-old Kona man and a 42-year-old Kona man during the confrontation and later returned to the party and threatened the three men again, this time with a rifle.
After the party, Denis returned to his home and got into an argument with a 26-year-old Holualoa woman. Police said he threw a rock through the woman’s car windshield as she drove away.
Police arrested Denis 10 p.m. Sunday.
