Hawaii chef wins national award
Foodland chef Keoni Chang has won his division in the national Supermarket Chef Showdown in Dallas.
Chang’s dish, winning him the "Indulgent" category, was a Deconstructed Ahi California Roll.
He wins $1,000 and will again represent Hawaii in the finals tomorrow, doing battle against three other supermarket chefs for the "Supermarket Grand Chef" title and a two-day boot camp trip to the Culinary Institute of America for professional enrichment.
The contest will be streamed live online beginning at 5 a.m.
Chang was Hawaii’s sole entry among 20 competitors, culled from more than 357 entries in the industry event staged by the Food Marketing Institute.
