Rep. Marumoto will retire when term expires
Longtime Republican state Rep. Barbara Marumoto will retire from the Legislature when her term expires this year.
“It has been an honor to serve in the House of Representatives and a privilege to serve the good people of the state of Hawaii,” Marumoto (R, Kalani Valley-Diamond Head) said in a statement released today. “I will be at my desk until the general election and continue to work in the community thereafter.”
In an interview, Marumoto said she was stepping down for “lots of reasons,” primarily to spend more time with family.
Marumoto, 72, is the second-longest serving member of the House behind Speaker Calvin Say.
