Kalakaua Avenue closures will snarl Waikiki traffic this weekend

Expect traffic delays in Waikiki this weekend.

Kalakaua Avenue will be shut down during the Pan-Pacific Festival’s Hoolaulea block party Friday and parade on Sunday. If you’re trying to get around in Waikiki, consider using alternate routes.

Kalakaua from Lewers Street to Kaiulani Avenue will be closed on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for the ho’olaule’a, which runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Sunday, Kalakaua from Saratoga Road to Kapahulu Avenue will be closed from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the festival parade, which runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Festival organizers in a press release suggested the following for Sunday: Kalia Road will turn into a two-way road from Saratoga Avenue toward the Halekulani and Sheraton Waikiki during the parade. Motorists can take Ala Moana Boulevard to Kalia Road, across Saratoga Road and up Lewers Street to access Halekulani, Outrigger on the Beach, Sheraton Waikiki and The Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
