Sailboat runs aground off Keehi Lagoon

The Coast Guard and Honolulu Fire Department responded today to a disabled 32-foot private sailboat that ran aground just south of Keehi Lagoon.

The Coast Guard was called at 10:29 a.m., responded and were on scene at 10:59 a.m.

A Coast Guard spokesman said that due to the position of the boat it was too shallow and too rough for the Coast Guard vessels to handle, so the Fire Department was called.

Lifeguards used a watercraft to transport a passenger to a Coast Guard boat, while the owner stayed with the single-masted boat.

Boats from the Fire Department and the Coast Guard towed the disabled sloop to Keehi Lagoon, and had it moored at 1:12 p.m.
