Washington state man stricken at sea arrives in Honolulu
An 81-year-old Washington state man is being treated in Honolulu after he was rescued at sea by a container ship during a medical emergency while sailing to Hawaii.
Robert Bourdon, of Longview, Wash., arrived at Honolulu Harbor this morning aboard the Horizon Reliance, which evacuated him when he was having a stroke more than 1,200 miles northeast of Oahu.
Hawaii News Now reports that his daughter-in-law Jenni Bourdon arrived from Washington to be by his side when crew members carried him into a waiting ambulance.
The Coast Guard says he’s in stable condition.
The Reliance is the same container ship that rescued three Canadians in February. Two men and a 9-year-old boy were attempting their first voyage across the Pacific when they found themselves adrift in rough seas after their mast broke.
