State tax collections up; revenue growth down

State tax collections were up 14.9 percent through the end of the fiscal year in June, according to the state Department of Taxation, but the revenue growth dropped to 10.2 percent when the delay in income tax refunds from 2010 is factored out.

The state Council on Revenues had projected 12 percent revenue growth for the fiscal year. Gov. Neil Abercrombie and the state Legislature use the council’s forecasts when drafting the state budget.

General-excise and use tax revenue, the largest category, increased by 8.1 percent, according to the department. Income tax collections were up 23.6 percent. Hotel-room taxes were up 13.9 percent.
