Firefighters rescue lost couple hiking in Kahana Valley
Firefighters rescued a couple who became lost while hiking in Kahana Valley.
Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig said the hikers started hiking about 11:30 a.m.Thursday and first called the Department of Land and Natural Resources for help about 3:30 p.m., but left a wrong number in a voice message.
The department relayed the message, and the Fire Department began searching in Kahana Valley, but couldn’t reach the couple until about 5:30 p.m. when the husband and wife called again for help, this time dialing 911.
Seelig said firefighters in a helicopter found the hikers in the back of the valley about 7 p.m.
Firefighters picked up the hikers and flew them back, one at a time, to Swanzy Beach Park.
The couple was not hurt.
