Manoa man pleads not guilty to kidnapping charge
A 29-year-old Manoa man entered a plea of not guilty this morning in Circuit Court on a first-degree kidnapping charge in connection with the alleged abduction of his ex-girlfriend.
Circuit Judge Richard Perkins assigned Benjamin Riedl’s case, which will begin the week of Oct. 8, to Judge Rom Trader. Riedl is being held in Oahu Community Correctional Center unable to post $100,000 bail.
Riedl was arrested July 21 after his ex-girlfriend escaped from his Pinao Street home, police said.
Police said that on July 20 Riedl confronted the woman after her current boyfriend dropped her off at her apartment in Waikiki. Riedel forced her to drive to his house on Pinao Street, and prevented her from leaving by locking the doors and restraining her, police said.
The woman screamed for help after Riedel allegedly threatened and assaulted her. Riedl also allegedly assaulted a 30-year-old man who lives next door who went to investigate the screams.
