Hawaii County police again seek help in identifying body found in park

Hawaii County police are asking the public again for help in identifying a man whose partially decomposed body was found July 19 at Higashihara Park in Keauhou Mauka.

Police have found evidence the body is a middle-aged homeless Caucasian man between 5-feet 8-inches and 5-feet 11-inches tall who frequented the Kainaliu, Kealakekua and Honalo areas.

He was found wearing blue jeans, no shoes and a blue T-shirt depicting a SpongeBob character and the words “It’s Hip To Be Square.”

The cause of death is undetermined.

Police continue to use forensic methods to identify the body, but ask anyone who knows of a person fitting that description who is unaccounted for call Detective Walter Ah Mow at 326-4646, ext. 238. Anonymous tipsters may call CrimeStoppers at 961-8300 or 329-8181.
