Gas prices in Hawaii jumped an average of 9 cents in the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

The Hawaii state average price is $4.26, 9 cents higher than las week, 11 cents higher than last month and 25 cents higher than a year ago.

Honolulu’s average price climbed to $4.22 a gallon for regular unleaded – a dime more than last week, 12 cents more than last month and 24 cents higher than a year ago at this time. In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.25 a gallon, up a nickel from last week, eight cents more than last month and nine cents more than this time last year.  Wailuku’s average is $4.26 a gallon, eight cents more than last week, seven cents more than last month and 10 cents lower than last year.

“Prices increased again over the past week, continuing to follow the upward arc in oil prices,” said AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson.

Oil prices have risen about $8 per barrel since Aug. 1, partly on hopes that the U.S., Europe and China would do more to increase growth in their respective economies. Slower growth cuts into the demand for oil and other energy products.
