A 36-year-old Wahiawa man is charged with kidnapping, terroristic threatening, abuse of a household member, assault, violating a protective order and criminal property damage after he allegedly kidnapped a woman for more than 12 hours on Aug. 31.

Peter Kanohokula is being held on $500,000 bail and is expected to make an initial appearance in District Court Monday.

Police said Kanohokula is suspected of following a 24-year-old woman  to a store on Kilani Avenue on Aug. 31.

The woman got into his vehicle and the two drove to an area near Kaena Point where he allegedly assaulted her. According to police, he later drove her back to Wahiawa where he again assaulted her, but she was able to escape.

Police said Kanohokula tried to choke the woman. He also allegedly threatened her with a dangerous instrument.

After the victim was freed, police said he continued to threaten her using text messages.

Officers arrested Kanohokula Thursday at 12:44 p.m. at an Ewa Beach home, just after police issued a CrimeStoppers bulletin seeking help in finding him.

CrimeStoppers thanked the public for information leading to Kanohokula’s arrest.
