Zombies lose luster in top Halloween costumes list
The desire to dress up as a zombie for Halloween has fallen to No. 5 from No. 4 last year, according to the annual top costumes list by the National Retail Federation.
Its annual survey found that this year the top three costumes planned by adults are witches, (6 million); and vampires (3.2 million). Pirates rounded out the top three, though no figure was given.
Last year, more than 2.6 million adults and children planned to dress as zombies, but no comparative figure for this year was supplied by NRF.
Among children, 9.7 percent plan to dress as princesses, while the Nos. 2 and 3 slots will dress as Batman (5.4 percent) and Spider-Man (4.6 percent).
The federation also predicts many will don election-themed costumes that will include masks of Barack Obama or Mitt Romney.
This year’s top pet costumes will be pumpkins, devils and hot dogs, same as last year.
