No tsunami from quake off British Virgin Islands

A magnitude-4.7 earthquake struck off the British Virgin Islands this morning but did not pose a tsunami threat, officials said.

The quake, centered 71 miles north-northeast of Road Town in the British Virgin Islands at a depth of 13.3 miles, hit at 3:36 p.m. near the epicenter (5:36 a.m. Hawaii time), according to preliminary information from the U.S. Geological Survey.

Honolulu is approximately 5,975 miles from Road Town, British Virgin Islands.
