Fire claims unoccupied warehouse on Maui

An unoccupied warehouse in Kula went up in flames Saturday night, causing $116,000 in damage but no injuries, Maui County officials said.

Investigators determined that overheated equipment caused the fire at the 2,000-square-foot building at 3361 Omaopio Road, officials said.

Crews arrived at 8:16 p.m. Saturday to find the warehouse, used as an office and greenhouse, and containing two bedrooms, 30 percent involved in flames, officials said. The fire was under control about 10 minutes later.

Officials estimated damage to the structure at $100,000 and contents at $16,000.
