Victim in Ala Moana Center stabbing identified
The Medical Examiner’s office has identified the man who died after an apparent stabbing at Ala Moana Center as Brent Kanae, 23, of Honolulu.
Police are asking for witnesses in the stabbing death of Kanae, an employee at the mall, to come forward.
Honolulu police Maj. Richard Robinson said Kanae was found at 3 p.m. Wednesday unconscious and bleeding in a makai stairwell at the shopping center just below the California Pizza Kitchen.
He was taken to a trauma center and pronounced dead, Robinson said. He said the man was stabbed, but would not elaborate. An offical cause of death has not been determined.
Kanae was employed at a business at Ala Moana Center, Robinson said, but would not say which business.
The manager at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. would not confirm whether the victim was an employee, and directed all questions to a mainland spokeswoman, who was unavailable Wednesday.
