Maui firefighters rescue visitor who fell 20 feet from trail
Maui firefighters today rescued a 53-year-old Utah man who fell about 20 feet next to a pond at the Pua`a Ka`a State Park.
The man was walking on a partially blocked trail on the mauka side of the park when he fell before the Fire Department was alerted at 1:53 p.m., a fire official said.
He suffered non-life threatening injuries to his arms and left ankle, Maui fire spokesman Lee Mainaga said in an e-mail.
The firefighters swam across the pond, placed the man on a backboard and floated him across the pond about 50 feet, Mainaga said.
He was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
