Third batch of computer thefts in 2 months reported at UH

University of Hawaii at Manoa campus security and the Honolulu Police Department are investigating the theft of computers at two UH offices Thursday night — the third batch of computer thefts in two months.

According to campus security officials, the burglar or burglars pried open door locks to gain entry to two offices in Bilger Hall. The break-in was discovered during a route security patrol around 1 a.m. Friday.

On Oct. 11, four classrooms were broken into early Thursday morning and iMac computers were taken. Door locks to the rooms in Saunders Hall were pried open just before 2 a.m., campus security said.

In September, four computers were stolen from Dean Hall. The burglars entered the building through a window, according to campus sercurity.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call campus security at 956-6911 or the Honolulu Police Department.

Campus security is advising campus personnel to install tracking programs in computer equipment, password-protect computer access and back up sensitive files.
