Man suffers smoke inhalation in Waikiki apartment fire
One man was taken to the hospital and treated for apparent smoke inhalation following a fire in his Waikiki apartment this morning.
Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Carlton Yamada said firefighters got the alarm at 6:11 a.m. The fire was contained to a second-floor unit at 2566 Lemon Road near the Waikiki Grand Hotel. It was extinguished at 6:21 a.m.
None of the other 19 units in the 4-story structure was affected.
The victim, a man in his 40s, had taken refuge on the balcony of the apartment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, although preliminary indications is that it may have started in the kitchen, Yamada said.
